- This
was a great, great game. I flew into the airport and was
overwhelmed by the combination of heat and humidity. Very
Bermuda-like. I got to my hotel on Miami Beach. South Beach is
quite gay. Not my kind of place, but I did find a place to eat
a cheese-steak from some dude who came from Buffalo. The
following day, Nikk came by the hotel to pick me up, wearing
his Fresno State cap. Nikk is a Seminoles fan. We drove to the
game, and Nikk used his expertise in speaking Spanish to
secure a parking spot. The section of Miami surrounding the
old Orange Bowl is not very nice and tough to find your way
speaking English. Hurray for multiculturalism! We get to the
stadium to find some marginal tailgating, and then head into
the Orange Bowl. After being overwhelmed by the urine smell on
the way to our seats, we sat in our seats. These were awesome
seats. (Again, thanks to you-know-who.) The second impression
was the sense of deja vu you got, from having already seen so
many games here. It was like traveling to New York for the
first time. Soon, nearby Hurricane Floyd provided some
collateral damage by dumping a ton of rain on us. I was soaked
thru fairly early, but it was warm so it wasn't uncomfortable
- not unlike Bermudian rainstorms. The game started great,
with PSU jumping out to an early lead. Howard Schnellenberger
was soon seen walking up and down. The Miami fans applauded
him for his corrupt program. At half time, we saw John Blake
(or at least someone who had his man titties). Miami came back
and jumped into a 23-20 lead with little time left. Some old
geezer mentioned how Miami needed only one first down and they
would win the game. It seemed true, but PSU stuffed Miami on
3rd and 2 and 4th and inches on the 20 yard line. A play later
- YO! - an 80 yard strike from Thompson to Fields, who
had a step on Mike Rumph. Amazing how Fields got cut from the
49ers, but Rumph remains. Miami got the ball back after the
kickoff and PSU promptly picked off Kelly - again. A couple of
knees later, victory was ours.
