Buffalo Sabres

I was too young to appreciate the French Connection. I became a Sabres fan in the late 1970s when Edmonton was a WHA team (the Oilers were my favorite WHA team). I liked the Sabres because of their jerseys and a game against the Islanders I saw.

The Sabres need new jerseys that revert back to our colors ASAP. First, our old colors were preferable to the red and black sellout. Second, our old jerseys were unique and you didn't get us confused with the Blackhawks or Devils. We need a classic (which translates into simple) jersey. I will post a sample of what I think we should wear in the near future.

My latest thoughts about the Sabres so far this offseason:

1. I like the addition of Drury and Begin. I'm not sure about the cost of Ballard and Warrener.

2. Vanek was a decent choice. I would have preferred trading down for Kastitsyn or Parise.

3. We really need a RH defenseman or two. Andy Delmore was a nice pickup, but I don't consider him anything more than a 6th defenseman, except on the PP.

4. We need way more toughness on defense.

5. Depending on the return, I think we should deal a goaltender. I would deal Biron because I think you could get the most for him. Boynton and a 2nd rounder for Biron?

6. Yushkevich or Klee would look really good on our D - good RH defensemen. The problem is the costs in a $30M budget.

7. I would still be extremely hesitant to deal away Tim Connolly or Pyatt. These guys are only 22 for the next season. I would be less hesitant to deal Afinogenov.

8. I am extremely happy Lindy Ruff was retained. I am not sure about Regier, but I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, since it is impossible to tell what screw-ups are his and which ones were caused by the conditions created by the Rigases.

9. I would love to get Matt Cooke out of Vancouver. If we have to give up Afinogenov, so be it.

10. The new six pack mini-season ticket package is a great idea, especially for people like me who can only get to a few games this year.

Thank you Tom Golisano for saving the Buffalo Sabres. May you make a ton of money off the Sabres.

The NHL refuses to admit they were absolutely incompetent in failing to call Brett Hull's nogoal not a goal. The evidence is clear:
Yep, the skate is still in the crease. Note also that Brett Hull's skate is interfering with Hasek's goal stick. The NHL had the balls to apologize for the offsides nogoal the Capitals "scored" on us in the 1997-8 playoffs (Nogoal I), they had the good sense to apologize for the nogoal the Flyers "scored" on us in 1999-2000 (Nogoal III). Time to let your testicles drop Bettman - apologize for allowing Brett Hull's nogoal to stand. Why continue to argue when nothing will change? It is every Sabres' fans duty to point out the illegitimacy of the St*rs "championship." Nobody recognizes the USSR 1972 men's basketball gold medal to be legitimate. Nobody thinks that Roy Jones Jr. legitimately lost the gold medal in Seoul. Nobody really believes that there are 5 downs in college football. Nobody thinks OJ was innocent. Just because OJ wasn't convicted doesn't mean you let him date your daughter.

As for the idiots who think the NHL followed its rules and that nobody else except for the experienced hockey fans in Texas know hockey, think again. The NHL was covering its ass. If the possession argument the NHL tried held any weight, you would see nobody put themselves offside. If the shooter doesn't lose possession after shooting, imagine a shot that rings off the goal post, then ricochets out of the offensive zone where it deflects off the boards back across the blue line, where the shooter touches the puck. In reality, this play is offside. In the Alice in Wonderland world of NHL officiating, apparently it would not be. As for the NHL's claim that the goal was reviewed, bullshit. Why wasn't John Leclair's nogoal reviewed next year?
